We were saddened to learn this week of the passing of Jim Stewart, who started Fetters, UK many decades ago. We had met Jim at least a decade ago here in Seattle, and had since had him visit our homes both on
Beacon Hill and at the Bondage Lodge. We'd also had the great pleasure of staying with him the last two or
three visits to the UK, when he still lived in London.
He was, the consumate English gentleman, albeit with a bit of a kinky bent. We had many great conversations, while sitting in his living room sipping morning press pot coffee, or while relaxing over a glass ( or two ) of wine at a pub, his house or a restaurant. When we visited, we stayed in his old playspace at the top of the house, and tried some of the gear that was there, some of which were prototypes for the original Fetters gear, such as the double face hood, restraints etc. his fold down bondage bed and more.
Jim joined us as well for two of the Harry Potter movies during the premier week at the Picadilly Circus theatre that hosted the movies' premiers. It was great fun for him as he'd known some of the older actors during his days at BBC, and would giggle to see them in the movies playing witches, or wizards. He also
introduced us to many of his London friends, and occasionally those who lived outside of London, as well as visiting some of the gardens around London with us.
He loved to talk about bondage, bondage scenes, kink, gear and the history of it all, as well as what was
going on with it these days. His interests spanned many aspects of it, but always he loved stories of guys like firemen, military, police, working/trades guys most of all. At all times he made us feel welcome and that he was happy to have us visit and be a part of his life.
I'll miss him very much....his ready smile, British charm and love of life. Cheers Jim.
